TECHNOLOGY OF THE GOA'ULD PART I Weapons The Goa'uld do not make technological devices of their own design; they are known across the galaxy for stealing the creations of other races. Nonetheless, there are some pieces of technology that are identified with the Goa'uld, since they have used them often and effectively. -- The Zat'nik'tel --
The gun that Samantha Carter is holding in the picture above is called a zat'nik'tel, or zat for short. It fires a bolt of blue-white energy. The first jolt from a zat gun tends to knock most people unconscious, and in any case it hurts a great deal. The second blast usually kills the target outright. The third hit from a zat gun disintegrates the body into nothing. These guns are seen a lot in the hands of jaffa, and in the hands of stargate teams, since they take the weapons from the jaffa whenever they can. -- The Staff Weapon --
The weapon that is being fired above known as a staff weapon, and it is the main weapon of all jaffa. They are trained to use it as a regular quarterstaff and as an energy weapon. The blast that comes out of this weapon is very strong and is enough to disable and/or kill most people with one hit. (Note that the jaffa in the picture above are also wearing the special armor of the serpent guards. This armor is extremely effective and is able to repel some bullets.) Below, Master Bratac holds his staff weapon up high, giving a full view of it.
-- The Ribbon Device - Destructive Capabilities --
The ribbon device (pictured above) is often seen on the hands of the Goa'uld System Lords, as both a weapon and a healing asset. This device is activated through concentration and the naquadah that is released into a host's body by a Goa'uld symbiote. It is plated with gold and is often coated with jewels. This device is seen a great deal on the show, not only because it is a portable device with multiple uses, but also because it is dramatic in its application. (In the core roleplaying rulebook, only the healing aspect of this device is available.) -- The Ribbon Device - Telekinetic Push --
The ribbon device is capable of sending out a blast of telekinetic force, as seen above. This force hurls outward and knocks targets back, often into walls or other scenery. -- The Ribbon Device - Brain Frying --
The other offensive power of the ribbon device is the ability to hurt a target's brain with a vicious flow of energy. This attack tends to hold the target in place, stunned, while the energy flows and does its damage. The ribbon device takes a little time to do permanent damage, and with enough exposure it can cause death. Teleportation Devices -- The Ring Device --
The ring device teleports a certain number of people or objects to another location within the general area. It simply does not have the range of the stargates. It can be used to teleport people into a ship from the ground, from one ship to another, or from one part of a planet to another. Once they are activated, the rings come up from the ground and encircle the party (as above).
Then, the rings fill with a beam of light. In this beam, whatever is within the rings is transported. Like the stargate, the ring device only runs in one direction at a time; it can only teleport one group one way at one time. If an object - say, a limb like an arm - is left both inside and outside the position of the rings, when the teleportation occurs the limb will be severed.
At the end of the journey, the rings descend into the floor and the teleported material is left to do as it will.
