I've grown up on movies and television as much as books and imagination.  I had only a few restrictions on the films I could watch as a child; now, my enjoyment is my guiding principle.  If I'm really not enjoying a flick, I turn it off.  Most of the time I have the television running, if only for noise.  Although I'm genuinely fond of television, I rarely watch broadcast t.v. and tend to rent my favorite shows through Netflix.  This means that I'm a little out of touch with the t.v. that others watch - I don't see nearly as many commercials, I only tend to watch shows once I've heard they're good, and I'm almost always behind schedule.  This means that I tend to avoid web sites and discussions about shows I really enjoy so that people won't spoil them for me.  It also means that I probably won't be reviewing any t.v. shows here, no matter how much I love them.

I will, however, be reviewing as many movies as I can get away with.  I've been putting up short reviews and ratings for a long time now, and it's interesting to go back and read my first impressions.  There are a few movies that I've changed my mind about, but for the most part, if I love something at first viewing, I'll love it later down the road.  Likewise, it's unlikely that I'll come to love a movie I couldn't stand when I first saw it.  (I watched Eyes Wide Shut years later, curious if I could get into it, and I still found it a painful experience.)
